The Internet is a crowded, crazy place. It is your job as a marketer to make sure that people can find your information easily.
If you have a blog and are using it to market your product or service, then using a blog roll or blog directory will increase your site visits dramatically. Two great blog roll services are MyBlogLog and Criteo.
A blog roll will post relevant blogs on your site, and your blog name and link will appear on other sites. This provides a nice level of "cross-pollination" between blogs, and more visitors to your site.
Blog directories are also great resources - a few good ones are Blog Catalog
and Blogorama.
There are literally thousands of directories, so listing to a few each day makes sense and will help you get a viral following.
If you have a website rather than a blog - be sure to list by hand with all the search engines. Manually listing is more secure than using an autosubmission tool, even though it is a bit time consuming. After all, who said it was going to be easy?
Listing with link directories also helps increase the number of inbound links you have, which increases your site ranking.
For instance, here is a link directory that linked to one of the articles on this site: Quickregister
Increasing traffic to your site or blog is an ongoing, daily effort - but one that will pay off with persistence.
