Marketers, sales persons, public relations professionals, and keynote speakers always look for ways to make their presentations better. A new book makes a perfect coach.

In his new book, The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How To Be Insanely Great In Front Of Any Audience (McGraw-Hill, 2010), Carmine Gallo explores what makes Steve Jobs, co-founder and leader of Apple Computer, a legendary presenter.

Gallo tells readers they can see firsthand how Jobs accomplishes such great results in his presentations by viewing more than 35,000 clips online. There are numerous clips from the Macworld events that Jobs is so famous for making them so memorable.

Steve Jobs Presentation Techniques

Carmine Gallo details the tips and techniques that Jobs builds into each of his presentations including:

  • Creating simple and short stories and then placing those stories on even simpler and shorter slides.
  • Building the message around the most important question on the minds of the consumer.
  • Deliver a memorable experience by employing graphics, demonstrations, and video clips.
  • Rehearsing for months, days, and hours to refine using voice, body language, eye contact, and expected dress to enhance the delivery.

Teaching Video Clips

Gallo explains all of the techniques used by Jobs in the book. He also suggests that readers watch video clips of Jobs in action.

Gallo writes, “For educational purposes, use YouTube as a complement to the techniques revealed in the pages to follow. At this writing, there are more than 35,000 clips of Steve Jobs on YouTube.”

Planning and Designing

The author tells readers that Jobs is “closely involved” in the details of his presentations. He writes descriptive headlines, helps create slides, practices demos, and gets involved in the lighting for the stage.

Gallo wrote, “His presentations are theatrical events intended to generate maximum publicity, buzz, and awe.”

Jobs starts with pen and paper and uses storyboarding to build plots into his presentation. Gallo calls it “marketing theatre unlike any other.”

Gallo’s research found that experts recommend 90 hours of creation time for a one hour presentation.

Presentation Play Book

Presentations have become a mainstay for so many industries and professions. Keynote speakers, marketing professionals, public relations people, CEOs, doctors, and researchers all find themselves in front of audiences on a regular basis.

Gallo’s book is a great handbook or play book to giving audiences the ultimate experience using techniques that Steve Jobs has made famous.

Watch and Learn

An interesting aspect of Gallo’s book is that he mentions and even recommends that readers view presentations at an online source. The video clips provide great insight and reinforcement of what the author tells readers are the secrets to great presentations from one of the legendary presenters of recent history.
