Strategy Gives You Market EdgeIn the Marketing World Those Who Plan Ahead Stay AheadIf you are going into the world of online marketing or if you are planning an offline sales and marketing campaign, it's best to be prepared.
To plan ahead set out where you are going and how you are going to get there. After all, unless you know where you are going, how can you plan your journey, and if you don’t have the map, or in this case the tools, how will you know you are going in the right direction? Strategy Is Where it Is atBy having a decent strategy you can gain the market edge on your competitors. To build your strategy you need to understand your current situation, the objectives of your campaign and the technologies you need to achieve these goals. Situation AnalysisWhen looking at your situation you need to be honest and realistic. You need to take a long hard look at your business and where it sits against the competition in price, quality of service, brand awareness and place. Place can be location of stores or placement of links on a search engine, basically where your customers can find you. Benchmark your situation against the competition and make sure you are realistic about your strengths and weaknesses and where the improvement is needed -- this way you can better plan your objectives. Objectives PlanningWith objectives it is again a case of being realistic. If you are a small company with limited resources, you cannot expect to gain the same sort of success as the larger companies with spare resources for their marketing. So set realistic goals in line with your budget and resources and take it one step at a time. By setting smaller objectives you are more likely to achieve them one at a time and make your way to world domination. The objectives focus the strategy and planning because without them you would not know where you are going. Once you know your objectives you can look at the right tools for the job and achieving those goals. Strategy Is the MapSo you know where you are and where you want to go, now you need to plan the journey of how to get there. By looking at the technology and resources needed you can plan the steps ahead. It may be something as simple as step 1 design a new website, step 2 set up website analytics software, step 3 set out SEO plan, step 4 set up pay per click advertising and step 5 monitor results. You would then, of course, have to break such a plan down into the nuts of the actions needed. For example step 1 web design would need the obvious web designers and developer’s skills, step 2 would mean sourcing the right analytical service or software and so on. It is important to be flexible with your strategy to make sure your objectives are met. This will require testing and monitoring at every stage of the process to make sure that you are heading the right direction, after all if you were following a map you would look out for signs along the way to make sure you were going in the right direction. With a carefully planned flexible strategy you will have the advantage on those that do not plan ahead and gain advantage on those that do.
