Public Relations 2.0 Uses High-Tech Resources. , www.office.microsoft.com
Public relations professionals are finding high tech resources to expand their company's media coverage.

Web 2.0 has been the talk of most computer, business, trade and professional magazines, newspapers and web sites for the past four years - and rightly so. The new web technologies such as social networking, blogs, virtual worlds, wikis and podcasts have opened the door to immediate news postings and expanded target markets that can be living on all sides of the earth.

These technologies are perfect outlets for public relations professionals to get the company’s news and information published every time, all the time and with immediate results. Meet Public Relations 2.0.

PR 2.0

Web 3.0 is fast approaching with a host of new connectivity tools - for now Web 2.0 is the fuel that powers all of the new tools for PR 2.0. Tools that include podcasting, vidcasting, social networking, blogging, Search Engine Optimization (SEM), emailing, online posting of press releases and the use of online news resources.

Just about any type of company or organization can be found online these days not just having a web site but online at sites like digg, craigslist, yelp, twitter and other sites that share news and information.

The Coca-Cola Company has a blog that consumers can go to read what is happening at the company and leave comments, suggestions and, yes, complaints.

Digg has news, images and video from hundreds of different web sites. When reading an article on site with a digg icon at the bottom of the page, users can click on the icon and the article or news release gets loaded onto digg. Twitter is the latest site generating cyber space buzz. It is a free service (the site does require users to join) that allows the briefest of text messages sent. The Obama campaign reportedly used twitter to send updates to readers about speeches and events.

Public Relations Wiki

A wiki is a site or collection of pages that allows anyone visiting the site to contribute or modify the information on the wiki. A wiki designed just for public relations professionals can be found at thenewprwiki.cm/wiki. The site provides visitors with a host of blogging and podcast links, list of conference notes, slides and photos as well as a hot issues list and a resource directory.

These new tools can help get the news out but can they can also provide a much needed support system for public relations professionals. Public relations is one of those professions that everyone shakes their head at until they need it – then it is the greatest tool in the company’s kit.

Public Relations New World Tools

It’s a new world and that brings the more excitement than has been felt since the profession started emailing press releases and articles, getting redesigned graphics and logos within hours rather than days and implementing the many powers of digital photography.
