Marketing Through Writing

Hire a Ghostwriter to Write Your Articles and Books

As a professional or business person, you can promote yourself, your products, and your company by using a ghostwriter to create books, articles, web content, and more.

One of the ways celebrities add to their fame and fortune is by writing a book—but very few of them actually do the writing themselves. They hire ghostwriters who, in addition to having the talent to write, also have the temperament to work with demanding clients and don’t mind staying behind the scenes.

You may not be, or even want to be, a celebrity, but you can still benefit from the services of a good ghostwriter. Most ghostwriters work on a contract or freelance basis and enjoy the variety of working with different clients on a range of projects. Some of the ways a business person can use a ghostwriter include:

• Books, including how-to, motivation, and memoirs. Books are a great way to promote your product or company. One of the most popular trends in book publishing is the “little book,” which are small, short books that focus on a very narrow topic and can be written and produced in a few months. Or, if your business is established and has an interesting past, consider creating a corporate history book to preserve those memories, use as a marketing piece, and build employee pride and loyalty.

• Articles in trade journals and other business publications. Most business magazines are hungry for good articles written by experts, but they have little or no budget to pay for those pieces. A ghostwriter can write an article under your name that will give you far more credibility than a paid advertisement, often for a comparable cost.

• Letters to the editor and op-ed pieces in your local newspaper. Got something to say about a hot topic? Want to create some buzz on an issue? Hire a ghostwriter to write an opinion piece for you—the exposure can be tremendous and might lead to further publicity.

• Articles for websites, e-zines, and other online resources. A ghostwriter can produce articles by you for your own or other websites that provide solid information and subtly promote you and your company.

• Blog content. A ghostwriter can help you with content for your own or your company’s blog.

• White papers and special reports. When professionally created and properly used, white papers can be powerful marketing tools.

A lack of time or writing skills shouldn’t prevent you from using the written word to promote yourself and your business. At the same time, whatever you produce in the way of books and articles should be written in a clear, cohesive, and engaging manner by a professional who knows how to communicate your message accurately, in a style others will want to read, and in a way that reflects positively on you and your company. A good ghostwriter can be a tremendous addition to your marketing team.
